Starting in week 36, the first bare root perennials, including Peonies and Iris, will arrive at Kébol Plants for packaging and shipment preparation. Deliveries to the USA and Canada are scheduled from week 41 onwards.
This season has brought its share of challenges. Growers have faced periods of extreme weather, ranging from heavy rainfall to dry, warm conditions. Despite these circumstances, harvest results are encouraging. While yields vary between cultivars, overall production is meeting expectations and quality remains good. Availability of 2-3 and 3-5 size peonies is excellent. This positive outcome is largely thanks to the dedication and expertise of our growers and suppliers. Throughout the season, they have worked hard to maintain plant quality and ensure reliable production. Their efforts continue to deliver high-quality bare root products to the market.
The harvest of early peony varieties began in week 32. These varieties are suitable for longer storage under carefully controlled conditions, allowing Kébol to supply them throughout the fall and winter season. Other varieties will be delivered to Kébol during November and December and prepared for shipment in January and February.
Although weather conditions have been unpredictable, harvesting activities are progressing according to schedule. Crop quality meets expectations, demonstrating the resilience of both the plants and the growers behind them. After harvest, peonies undergo hot water treatment, an essential process that helps eliminate harmful organisms and reduce disease pressure. This treatment is followed by inspection, sorting, cleaning, and grading to ensure uniformity and quality. Harvest is expected to be completed by the end of October.
We are pleased to announce that the first containers destined for the United States have been shipped. Travelling in a temperature-controlled environment, the plants will arrive in excellent condition, ready for fall planting. Arrival at the port is planned for week 41.
Upon arrival, the shipment will be received at our logistics hub in Waynesboro, Virginia, where the plants will be stored under optimal conditions before distribution across North America. Orders will be delivered via UPS or LTL, depending on shipment volume.
